Nominations are now being accepted for the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Service Award. The award, which dates back to 1929, annually honors a local resident for his or her extraordinary efforts to make the Traverse City area a special place to live. In its history, it has recognized business leaders, public servants, patrons of the arts and naturalists. Last year's recipient was Terry Berden, president of Great Lakes Stainless in TC.
Nominees must be a resident of the five-county service area, but do not need to be a Chamber member, and non-Chamber members are invited to submit nominations. Contributions (outside of monetary) to the cultural, economic and social betterment of the area are major considerations, along with character and ethics. Nominations are due by Nov. 1. The award will be presented at the Chamber's Annual Celebration on Jan. 24, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Resort.
