Camping On Power Island Proving Popular

July 22, 2016

According to Grand Traverse County Parks & Recreation Department, more people are taking advantage of more campsites on Power Island.

As of the end of June, 63 reservation permits were issued for Power Island camping, which is projected to generate more than $10,000 in fees. That total would represent more than double the revenue earned for all of 2015.

The island became an officially licensed campground as of June 7. Five new sites on the south beach side of Power Island were cleared this past spring, bringing the total sites to 10, including the five on Bassett Island.
