Grand Traverse County Sheriff deputies followed a tip from their Charlevoix counterparts that led them on a chase and ultimately an arrest on Tuesday night. A call said that a Jeep Cherokee had been stolen from a residence in Charlevoix. A few minutes later, information was received that the driver of the stolen vehicle had stolen gas in Elk Rapids and was headed south on U.S. 31. A Grand Traverse Sheriff’s deputy soon spotted the vehicle near Three Mile Road in East Bay Township and, after a short pursuit, witnessed the suspect abandon the vehicle in a yard of a residence on Avenue E. Assisting deputies spotted the suspect, a 28 year-old Mancelona man, near the intersection of Three Mile Road and Pine Grove Avenue, and took him into custody.
He is lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail on charges of Flee and Elude, Resisting and Obstructing, OWI 2nd, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Driving While License Suspended.
