Cherry Capital Airport Seeing Impact of FAA Facility Fire

Oct. 1, 2014

Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City continues to experience occasional flight delays and cancellations – along with other airports in the state – following a fire late last week at Chicago Center, the Federal Aviation Administration facility in Aurora, Ill. that controls air traffic above 18,000 feet.

The facility is closed and, according to a recent FAA statement, controllers have been relocated to other Center facilities to improve air traffic into and out of the Chicago-area airports as well as to other high-altitude air traffic centers near Minneapolis, Kansas City, Indianapolis and Cleveland to assist controllers and minimize disruptions for travelers.

Airport officials in Traverse City are reminding passengers and others wondering about local arrivals and departures to either check the website www.tvcairport.com or utilize TVC's smartphone app.

The FAA has set a target to return Chicago Center to full service by October 13.
