City Leaf & Brush Pick-Up Reminder

March 31, 2015

Loose leaf and brush pick-up will begin for city residents on April 20. Residents are asked to refrain from placing leaves in the streets until April 17. Once pick-up begins, leaves must be in the street (not the alley) and either in loose piles or biodegradable paper bags - no plastic bags allowed. Residents are asked to keep leaves cleared from storm water drains. Crews will begin on the east side of the city moving west and will only go down each street one time.

Similar rules apply to brush pick-up: Residents are asked to stack brush neatly, with no branches larger than four inches in diameter and a maximum of one 8'8'x'4 high pile. While Christmas trees are allowed, no logs, tree stumps or shrub root balls are permitted. Brush is to be placed in the alley if one exists, or behind the curb or pavement edge on the street if there is no alley. Crews will move through the city from east to west beginning April 20 and will only pass through one time.

Other than during spring leaf and brush pick-up, it is against city ordinance to place any items in city streets, alleys or right-of-ways. Residents can arrange for yard waste to be picked up outside of the spring pick-up period through American Waste at a cost of $2.23 per bag by calling 231-943-8088.
