City Opera House Announces 2016-17 Season

The Traverse City Opera House has unveiled a new lineup of 10 performances for the venue’s 2016-17 season. The roster features a mixture of Broadway performers, jazz bands, plays, one-man shows and musical revues. Ticket packages go on sale May 6 and start at $55 for three shows, while individual tickets range from $9-$50. Student tickets are $15.

“Looong gone,” but never forgotten! Mitch Albom’s hit play, “Ernie,” returns to City Opera House bringing Detroit’s beloved Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell to the stage. Ernie is about to give a moving thank you to grateful fans. An unusual boy coaxes him into giving the “broadcast of his life.”

SUTTON FOSTER
October 2 | $50, $35
Called “The New Ethel Merman” (Vanity Fair), two-time Tony award-winning actor, singer, dancer Sutton Foster will bring your Broadway favorites to life under the spell of her soaring voice in this special, one-night-only concert event.

HASAN MINHAJ: HOMECOMING KING
October 8 | $30, $20
The theatrical debut of humorist and “The Daily Show” senior correspondent Hasan Minhaj, “Homecoming King,” follows his family’s quest to achieve the elusive American Dream. NPR raves “Leaves you awestruck. Hilarious. Poignant. Don’t miss it!”

VOCALOSITY

From the creative mind of Deke Sharon, vocal producer of “Pitch Perfect,” “ Pitch Perfect 2,” and “The Sing-Off,” comes the live concert/theatrical experience celebrating the human voice. Twelve performers explore styles from Gregorian chant to contemporary Top 40 hits.

THE LION, THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE

Don’t miss the enchanting musical, “The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe,” based on C.S. Lewis’ adventure story about four children who accidentally enter the land of Narnia. This wondrous tale is faithfully translated to the stage by Theatreworks USA and is the family event of Thanksgiving weekend!

BLACK VIOLIN

Featuring ace turntable whiz DJ SPS and a drummer, Wilner “Wil B” Baptiste (viola) and Kevin “Kev Marcus” Sylvester (violin) are the radical fuse of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B, and bluegrass music which got Black Violin named one of the hottest bands at SXSW 2013.

ONE-MAN STAR WARS TRILOGY
