Four Traffic Fatalities In GT County In August

Sept. 3, 2015

August saw the most traffic fatalities of the year in Grand Traverse County, according to the monthly service statistics released by the Grand Traverse County Sheriff Department. Two fatalities occured in Garfield Township, and one each in Blair and Mayfield townships.

Overall, the department logged 4,218 calls for service and issued 316 citations across the county's 13 townships, two villages and the City of Traverse City. Both the calls and citations were down compared to July, 4,471 and 359, respectively.

The county's most populous township, Garfield Township, recorded the most citations (101) and the most traffic crashes, 79, of the county-wide monthly total of 212. Accross the county, there were 13 total arrests for OWI (Operating While Intoxicated), 4 arrests for MIP (Minor In Possession) and 256 criminal arrests.
