Hickory Hills Improvements Up For Vote Monday

May 29, 2015

Some major improvements could be coming to the Hickory Hills Ski Area if the Traverse City Commission approves a proposal to pledge $1.5 million from the Brown Bridge Trust Parks Improvement Fund for the Hickory Hills. The funds to be spent only when a full match of $1.5 million has been raised from outside, private sources within 24 months.

The proposed improvements would eventually include a new 6,000 square foot lodge, expanded terrain and recreational areas including a ropes course and climbing wall, and a storage maintenance building.

The proposal comes via a recommendeation from the HIckory Hills Advisory Committee, which had been working through potential plans the past six months. The committee, appointed by the city manager, consists of representatives from ski, trail, and natural resource groups, as well as representatives from the city and Garfield Township.

Preserve Hickory, a local non-profit organization, is expected to be the primary fundraising group for the match efforts.
