Justin Bieber Argument Leads To Arrest

April 18, 2017

Heated words over a Justin Bieber song prompted an alleged assault that landed a 21-year-old Traverse City man in jail.

The man, his mother and two others were driving on US-31 in Acme Saturday afternoon when a song came on the radio. The man argued with his mother, a 41-year-old Wyoming woman, about the song’s lyrics.

The argument prompted the woman to pull into a gas station where she told her son that he could not disrespect her in front of his grandmother, who was traveling with them in the car along with a 17-year-old female passenger.

The woman told police she went into the backseat to confront her son and that he choked her; the man told police he might have had incidental contact with his mom as he tried to get away from her, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Capt. Randy Fewless says.

Deputies arrested the man on a charge of domestic assault. The man has a prior domestic assault conviction from 2014, Fewless says.
