K-9 Assists in Drug Bust

Oct. 9, 2015

An assist from a Leelanau County Sheriff's Office K-9 led to a drug bust in the parking lot of Tom's West Bay in Greilickville Wednesday night. At 10pm, Traverse Narcotics Team officers stopped a vehicle in the grocery store parking lot. Suspecting the vehicle contained contraband, the officers requested a K-9 team for back-up. The dog located quantities of crack cocaine and heroin that were hidden in the trunk area of the vehicle.

The suspect, 55-year-old Thomas Lee Collins of Baldwin, was arrested on five felony charges, including conspiracy to deliver both cocaine and heroin and possession of both substances. Collins is currently on parole from an armed robbery conviction in Lake County. He is lodged at the Leelanau County Jail.
