LGBT Group Plans Town Hall Meeting

May 25, 2016

An exploratory committee behind a proposed LGBT community center will host a town hall meeting next month to discuss project plans.

Polestar is a proposed community center that would offer LGBT social events, classes and workshops, a database of LGBT-friendly local businesses, and recommendations for supportive professional resources, such as doctors and attorneys. The committee of residents pursuing the center will introduce plans and answer questions from 6-9pm June 13 at Kirkbride Hall at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. The meeting will kick off with an introduction of committee members, followed by remarks from special guest speakers Traverse City Mayor Jim Carruthers and Executive Director of Equality Michigan Steph White. Mary Jo Schnell, executive director of the Outcenter of Southwest Michigan, will also talk about how an established center can impact the community.

Committee members will present the results of a community survey on assessed needs for a center, and also leave time for a public Q&A. The evening will end with light refreshments and musical entertainment by Ron Getz. For more information, click here.
