A Music Marathon is being organized by local musicians to benefit Safe Passage and Buckets of Rain, two humanitarian organizations that help families living in extreme poverty. The marathon begins Tues., Sept. 17, at noon and finishes Fri., Sept. 20, at the corner of Front & Cass streets in downtown Traverse City. Participants will be attempting to play "This Land is Your Land" continuously for 72 hours (in the evenings they can be found in front of Horizon Books). Up to 100 local musicians, singers and bystanders are needed. Why do it? Organizers say that in addition to raising money for the two charities, they hope to also "amuse the heck" out of Traverse City and create a world record for continuous live song performance. Info on how to get involved is available here.
