Porterhouse Productions announced this morning that Michael Franti & Spearhead and The Wailers will headline the fifth annual Traverse City Summer Microbrew & Music Festival August 23-24, 2013, at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Michael Franti & Spearhead will take the stage on Friday, August 23 at 8:00 p.m. and The Wailers will play on Saturday, August 24 at 8:00 p.m.
Michael Franti is an American poet, musician, activist and composer whose band, Spearhead, rocketed up the U.S. Hot 100 chart with the single "(Say Hey) I Love You." Known for its energetic mix of hip-hop, reggae, rock and pop, the band has toured with such acts as The Fugees, Cypress Hill, A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes. Led by Aston "Family Man" Barrett, The Wailers continue to perform the legendary music of Bob Marley, with whom they sold 250 million records worldwide and notched over twenty chart hits.
Other musical acts including Junior Brown, No BS! Brass Band, Grand Traverse Pipes & Drums, Delilah DeWylde & The Lost Boys, Laith Al-Saadi, Deep Water Samba, DJ Dominate, and additional entertainment to be announced will also perform at the festival, which will feature over 300 flavors of craft brews, meads, ciders and wines throughout the weekend. Proceeds from alcohol sales will benefit the non-profit CherryT Ball Drop.
