Detroit-area native Kristen Lowe will be joining 7&4 News anchor Marc Schollett at the anchor desk starting Monday.
Lowe formerly anchored an award-winning morning show in Midland, Texas for three years. Her work was recognized by the Texas Association of Press Broadcasters.
“Texas was a great experience and I needed an adventure at the time,” Lowe says, recalling her first on-air experience was reporting for several hours on record-setting grass fires. “After a year and a half, though, I knew I wanted to get back closer to home. I’m so happy to be here!”
She earned a bachelor’s in Communication and master’s in Journalism from MSU before working as a producer at WILX in Lansing.
7&4’s management team had been searching since April for a permanent replacement for former co-anchor Arielle Berlin. Erika Erickson temporary filled in at the anchor desk, but left in May to take a reporting job at FOX 2 in Detroit.
Reporter Megan Moore was then tapped to fill in. She'lll return to her reporting duties on ABC 29&8 and 7&4 News, according to VP of News Pat Livingston. "You will also see her filling in on the anchor desk from time to time. She and (weekend anchor) Brendan Kinney have done a great filling in while we waited for Kristen to arrive."
Lowe wants viewers to know she'll be "bringing consistency back."
"The viewers have gone through a lot and the station has gone though a lot, as far as people leaving, and I just want them to know I'm going to be here for a while.
“I think I’ll fit in (at 7&4). I have a good idea of how they want the show to be – a balance of serious, accurate reporting and having fun.”
