New GT 911 Director Named

Nov. 26, 2015

Jason Torrey has been named the new director of Grand Traverse 911. Torrey has been serving as acting director since early 2015 and was appointed to the position permanently by County Administrator Tom Menzel.

"Jason has successfully fulfilled the managerial responsibilities for county dispatch as acting director for the past eight months, and has proven himself many times over, so this was a very easy decision to make," says Menzel.

Torrey was hired by Grand Traverse County in 1997 in the Sheriff's Office's Central Records Division. He became a 911 dispatcher in 1998, was promoted to dispatch supervisor in 2001 and became the deputy director in 2007. A former U.S. Marine, Torrey is an active member of the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, the Michigan Communication Directors Association and the National Emergency Number Association.

"I am excited to work with our staff in my new capacity as director," says Torrey. "Our staff works hard to serve the county, and I am honored to be chosen to officially lead the department's efforts."
