Pugsley Workers Get Some Help

June 28, 2016

Northwest Michigan Works! has received a state grant to provide assistance to workers who will lose their jobs when the Pugsley Correctional Facility in Kingsley closes later this year. The State Adjustment Grant is funded by the Michigan Workforce Development Agency and will allow Michigan Works! to provide services specifically targeted at displaced Pugsley employees. The facility, which has 230 employees, is scheduled to close in September of this year as part of an ongoing state effort to save money by closing and consolidating correctional facilities.

The Adjustment Grant will allow Michigan Works! to provide a full menu of services to Pugsley employees. Those services will include job search assistance, interest and skills assessments, training opportunities, résumé assistance, workshops, and more. Michigan Works! will use a Mobile One-Stop Center to provide services in the Kingsley area so dislocated workers won’t have to travel. The services will be also be available at Michigan Works! Centers in Cadillac, Manistee, and Traverse City.
