Red Ginger Reopening; Maxbauers Temporarily Closed

July 22, 2014

One downtown Traverse City business will reopen this week as another closes its doors after unfortunate accidents hit both companies. Red Ginger is scheduled to reopen tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3pm after the May 30 collapse of a brick column in the dining room forced the restaurant to shut down for nearly two months. While the cause of the collapse still remains under investigation, the damaged column has been replaced by a steel column covered in drywall and extra steel support has been added to two other columns in the Front Street restaurant.

"It was very hard to be patient, but the support from the community, our vendors, staff and the outpouring of well-wishes from our customers really helped as we awaited the go-ahead to reopen," says Red Ginger owner Pam Marsh.

Meanwhile, around the corner on Union Street, Maxbauers Meat Market has closed for an "undetermined amount of time" after a small fire broke out in the store's meat smoker yesterday (Monday). No one was injured in the blaze, which was quickly extinguished by emergency responders, but smoke was seen billowing through the store. "Your support means the world to us," Maxbauers ownership posted on the company's Facebook page shortly after the incident. "No worries, we will be smoking - the way we like to - again soon."
