Skirmish At TC Pride Parade

June 30, 2015

Police took a report and sent it to prosecutors after a Traverse City gay pride parade celebrant snatched a sign from a protestor and ran off, only to have the sign taken back after the protestor put the man in a bear hug.

There were no punches thrown in what was the only dust-up during the event Saturday, which saw 500 to 600 marchers celebrate gay pride on Front Street in the wake of an historic U.S. Supreme Court decision that ensures the right of gay couples to marry. The event saw two dozen protestors, Interim TCPD Chief Jeff O’Brien said.

O’Brien said prosecutors will decide if charges should be filed. The marcher who allegedly took the sign was a 36-year-old man from Traverse City. The protestor was a 63-year-old Traverse City man.
