The Clinch Park Waterscape may reopen as early as this weekend – just in time for summer's last hurrah – after being shut down July 1 after raw sewage-contaminated water rained down on kids playing in the splash pad's sprinklers. It was also revealed shortly thereafter that the waterscape had opened without all the appropriate permits in place.
According to an announcement from the City Manager's office, staff met earlier this week with officials from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the Grand Traverse County Health Department to determine compliance with permitting requirements that will allow the City to operate the redesigned water feature. Both organizations granted conditional approval pending several minor outstanding items that must be addressed, including light covers and grates, a pump-flow meter and signage. City staff are also currently conducting water tests.
