Drivers, beware: Several significant street repair and construction projects will be underway in downtown Traverse City beginning today. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to use caution when traveling in these areas and to expect potential delays. Using alternate routes is recommended when possible.
1. 160 East Front Street - Utility work and building construction will begin at 160 East Front on the corner of Front and Cass streets today. The project is expected to last until May 2014. Work will require lane shifts as well as limited marked pedestrian detours.
2. Bay Street - The reconstruction of Bay Street between Division Street and Second Street will start today and is expected to last until mid-November. Work will include improvements to storm sewers and the addition of gutters, curbs and parking spaces.
3. Central Neighborhood Alley - Sewer reconstruction in the alley between Seventh and Eighth streets in Central Neighborhood - stretching from Wadsworth Street to Division Street - also launches today and is expected to last until November 8. The alley will be closed for the duration of the project. Oak Street and Maple Street - at the points where they intersect with the alley - will also be closed October 1-October 25 to allow for bypass sewer pumping.
