Suttons Bay Woman Hurt In Crash

Oct. 25, 2014

A 63-year-old woman was transported to Munson Medical Center after her car veered of S. West Bay Shore Drive in Elmwood Township and hit a tree Thursday. The incident occurred at 12:01pm. Investigators, who suspected Christine Huys was under the influence of drugs, received a search warrant for a blood test, which confirmed the presence of prescription drugs.

Leelanau Dispatch had received a call from a motorist that the vehicle was being driven erratically, crossing the center line and fog lines for miles before finally crashing.

She was transported to Munson Medical Center by Northflight Rescue. Huys was convicted of Operating with Presence of Drugs after a similar crash on S. West Bay Shore in Suttons Bay Township in 2012. Witnesses reported that her vehicle was swerving, running other vehicles off the road, before it eventually left the roadway and came to rest against some trees.
