Traverse City Central and West Senior High Schools have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report for being among the nation's "Best High Schools" for the second consecutive year. West ranked 718th and Central ranked 891st out of more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Of the 826 high schools that made the list in Michigan, West ranked 9th and Central ranked 21st. The rankings were determined based on state high school proficiency test scores compared to state averages, enrollment of least-advantaged students and their proficiency scores and the number of Advanced Placement tests taken and passed.
This recognition comes on the heels of "America's Most Challenging High School" results released by The Washington Post. In that ranking, West was 21st in Michigan and Central 23rd.
Both schools have received the recognition for three straight years.
