TCAPS Releases Preliminary Count Results

Oct. 2, 2014

The Traverse City Area Public Schools has released its preliminary "Count Day" numbers, which show enrollment has remained consistent over the last five years. "Count Day" is used by the state to determine how much funding a school district receives. TCAPS officials says 90 percent of its funding is dependent on fall "Count Day" and 10 percent on the count that will take place in February.

Results show approximately 707 kindergarten students enrolled this year and the district has continued to have more "school of choice" students enrolling in TCAPS than leaving for other schools. It is also expected that an additional 210 full-time equivalent students will be added to the count number as a result of TCAPS shared-time program, under which private and parochial school students take classes taught by TCAPS teachers.
