Trombone, Clown Mask, Machete, Chainsaw Arrest

Oct. 24, 2014

Police arrested a clown-masked man wielding a trombone Monday on allegations that he harassed his neighbor. Grand Traverse County Sheriff's deputies arrested Daniel Patrick Stanchik, 54, at his Blair Township home for a personal protection order violation. When deputies arrived, they found Stanchik as he was described by a caller to 911 -- wearing a clown mask and in possession of a pellet gun that looked like a rifle. He also wore camouflage pants and was at one point playing a trombone. Deputies said he was intoxicated.

Stanchik's neighbor won a restraining order against him a month earlier. She complained that he began to yell and swear at her a year earlier and that recently his behavior became more ominous. In September he walked around with a machete, at one point cutting grass on her drive, the woman said in her PPO application.

On Sept. 24, Stanchik allegedly approached the woman with a chainsaw and remarked "how easy it would be to chop someone's head off and kill them." A hearing on the alleged PPO violation is scheduled for Oct. 31.
