Two related wineries opened their doors at the entrance to Leelanau County this weekend. Three Fires Wine and Skipping Stone Cellars, which have shared tasting rooms under one roof on M22 at Hilltop Road next to Chateau de Leelanau, held grand openings Saturday introducing their lines of varietals featuring Leelanau-sourced grapes. Winemaker Nathaniel Rose, who also produces wine for Brengman Brothers Winery, manages wine production for and is a proprietor of both companies.
Three Fires Wines features three dry white wines and four red wines in its initial portfolio, while Skipping Stone Cellars offers five white wines and two rose wines. Both facilities, which have a liquor license and will operate year-round, plan to offer limited beer and/or mixed drink selections in addition to wine tastings and will host special on-site events including trivia nights, murder mystery nights and an "Iron Bartender" competition, where local mixologists will compete to create the best custom cocktails.
