Boil Water Notice Issued in East Bay Township
A boil water notice was issued Tuesday morning for part of East Bay Township after a suspected mechanical/power failure at the Cherry Ridge water tower. The advisory affects south of East Hammond Road, west of North Four Mile Road, east of Elmbrook Golf Course, and south to Smith Road/Farm Lane (see pictured map).
Residents in the affected neighborhoods should not drink their water without boiling it first. Bring water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using. Using bottled water is another option. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Continue using boiled or bottled water until the advisory is lifted.
The Grand Traverse County Department of Public Works and its contractor have completed repairs, and "water staff will be taking other remedial actions, such as flushing and collecting bacteriological samples from around the system," according to a county release. "The samples will be collected to determine whether the water quality meets the state drinking water standards. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria, and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate removing the boil water notice within 48 hours."
