Addiction Support Event Planned For Sunday

By Beth Milligan | Sept. 6, 2018

A 46 percent increase in drug-related deaths in Grand Traverse County has prompted organizers to offer a free addiction support event called Anchored In Hope Sunday (September 9) from 2pm to 4pm at Casalae Farms in Traverse City.

Anchored In Hope will showcase a variety of resources available for those struggling with addiction, as well as testimonials from individuals working through their addictions "in an effort to give hope for those who see no hope," according to an event press release. Singer-songwriter Miriam Pico will provide musical entertainment at the event.

The program is intended not only for those directly dealing with addiction, but also for families and friends searching for ways to help others facing problems with prescription drugs or other addiction concerns.

“We have amassed a wide range of supportive help,” says organizer Connie Lowe. “We’re confident anyone struggling with addiction issues will be able to find reasons for hope if they attend this event.”

Guest speakers will include Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney Bob Cooney, St. Max’s Fellowship for Teens Founder Claire Scerbak, and Tony Werth, an NMSAS recovery support coordinator.

Support organizations that will be present include Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, Munson Alcoholic and Drug Treatment, Grand Traverse County Drug Free Coalition, Addiction Treatment Services, Traverse Health Clinic, Project Unity for Life, Moms on a Mission, Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, Catholic Family Services, Harm Reduction MI, Before During and After Incarceration, St. Max’s Fellowship for Teens, Families Against Narcotics, and NMSAS Recovery Center.
