Goodwill Northern Michigan's Food Rescue team is cruising through the Sara Hardy Farmers Market on the new electric-powered bike sponsored by Munson Medical Center. The bike will be used for market food pick-ups and will allow Food Rescue to distribute more than 150 pounds of healthy food to more than six pantries in Traverse City. “We're thankful to have Munson Medical Center join us as a Famers Market Partner by sponsoring our new bike and trailer system," says Taylor Moore, Goodwill Food Rescue manager. “The electric Trek Transit+ bike allows us the opportunity to attract new volunteers and to pick-up more food and distribute across greater distances with the pedal support.”

Through their sponsorship, Munson Medical Center contributed significantly to the Food Rescue farmers market bike system, donating $1,000 toward the purchase. “Munson Medical Center is excited to help support this Food Rescue initiative to strengthen our community through the rescue of good and nutritious food,” says Meghan Daigh, senior media and community relations specialist with Munson Healthcare. The food rescued from the farmers market is in addition to the Food Rescue distribution network that delivers nutritious food to more than 40 pantries. Having a presence at the farmers market has also helped to establish new relationships with the farming community which led to over 10,000 pounds of new food pickups and Healthy Harvest gleans last grow season, all going to food pantries and meal-sites throughout the five county area (Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska, Leelanau, and Grand Traverse).
