IAF To Host World Press Freedom Day Event At State Theatre

By Beth Milligan | April 26, 2019

Northwestern Michigan College's International Affairs Forum will hold an event at the State Theatre on Tuesday, April 30 at 6pm in honor of World Press Freedom Day.

The event will feature a presentation by Rami Khouri, a Beirut-based journalist and international commentator and professor of journalism at the American University in Beirut. According to IAF, "the event is an opportunity to evaluate press freedom around the world and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession. In 2018, 53 journalists were killed in the line of duty and more than 250 imprisoned."

Dialogue on stage will be facilitated by Jacob Wheeler, NMC journalism instructor and adviser to the student-run White Pine Press. The event will include recognition of local journalists. Tickets are $5 and free to students, educators, and journalists.
