Kickoff Event for Walk to End Alzheimer’s Scheduled for June 28

June 18, 2018

The Greater Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host a kickoff event for the 2018 Traverse City Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Thursday, June 28 at Oryana Natural Foods Market. The kickoff will mark the start of “walk season,” which will culminate in Traverse City’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on September 29.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a nationwide event that raises funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease. Walkers form teams and then work together to raise donation pledges from friends, family, coworkers, and community members. This year, the goal for the Traverse City Walk is to raise $90,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. About a quarter of that total has been raised already, according to the official Walk to End Alzheimer’s website. The Traverse City Walk will be one of 12 walk events taking place in Michigan and one of more than 600 nationwide.

The kick off at Oryana will give event participants a chance to meet and interact, put together teams, share fundraising strategies with one another, and pick up fundraising supplies and other materials. The event is scheduled to start at 4pm and will include light refreshments.

Traverse City’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on September 29 at 10:30am and will start at the Open Space. The walking course has a route length of 2.08 miles. Participants can register here.
