Larimer Honored

Jan. 29, 2014

Former Choir Director at Traverse City West High School Choir Director Russ Larimer has been named Teacher of the Year by the Michigan School Vocal Music Association.

In his 26 years with TCAPS, Larimer’s musical ensembles from both TC West and Central performed at dozens of state, regional and national conventions and music festivals. They also competed in international competitions in Wales and Hungary. Larimer retired in June 2013.

A 1979 graduate of Albion College, Larimer taught for seven years on the Rosebud Indian Reservation and in the Black Hills of South Dakota before moving to TC. An active member of MSVMA, Larimer served on the group’s board of directors and was chosen to conduct the group’s state honors choir in 1992, 2003 and 2011.
