State Theatre Closed for More Roof Repairs

By Beth Milligan | June 9, 2026

After closing for over a month earlier this year to repair a leaking roof, the State Theatre was again forced to close its doors Tuesday in downtown Traverse City to address a new roof leak.

"We regret to inform you that the sudden arrival of heavy rains, after quite a long absence, has revealed another roof leak in our beautiful theatre," read an email to moviegoers. "And on Opening Day of our new TCFF TUESDAYS Summer Season, no less. In the interest of our patrons, our volunteers, our equipment, and our historic building, we have made the decision to close the theatre today to fully assess the situation."

The email noted that the State Theatre's roof has "multiple tiers," and that the new leak is "in a separate section of the roof than the leak back in February and is unrelated to our recent repairs." Theatre staff said they would post more updates when available.
