Bailey Arraigned on GT County Charges

Former Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Tribal Councilor Derek Bailey was arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court on three Grand Traverse County charges. Bailey appeared via video conference from Leelanau County Jail for his arraignment in front of Judge Thomas Philips on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct - stemming from allegations Bailey engaged in sexual activities with a person under the age of 13 on two occasions - and one count of being a sexually delinquent person.

The charges are in addition to five counts of criminal sexual conduct - three first-degree and two second-degree - Bailey faces in Leelanau County. Earlier this week, the Leelanau County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced a search of digital devices owned by Bailey seized in conjunction with his arrest did not yield any substantive evidence of his alleged crimes. One of the devices appeared to have had its memory wiped shortly prior to Bailey's arrest, however.

Bailey is next scheduled to appear in 86th District Court on September 15 for his Grand Traverse County charges and September 28 in 13th Circuit Court for his Leelanau County charges.
