Commission To Consider Tax Base Study

The Traverse City Commission will hold a study session tonight (Monday) to discuss funding a study of the community's tax base. Said City Manager Marty Colburn, "The intent of this study is to help understand the implications and impacts of our decisions." Colburn said the proposed vendor, Urban3, "has prepared a proposal to provide a model showing the economic impact of different types of land use decisions."

The project price tag is $31,500, though the city's portion would be $5,000. The remainder would be covered by other parties also interested in the results, including the National Association of Realtors ($15,000) the Traverse Area Association of Realtors ($1,500), Traverse City DDA ($5,000), and Grand Traverse County ($5,000).

The study session will also include a discussion regarding a proposed "payment in lieu of taxes" (PILOT) policy and procedure.

The commission study session will be held Monday at 7pm at the Governmental Center on Boardman Avenue.
