Driver Causes Four Separate Accidents In Leland

A 69-year-old Florida woman was involved in four separate traffic crashes in Leland this weekend.

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to Leland Friday just after noon on a report of multiple accidents. A 2011 BMW, driven by the Florida woman, had attempted to park on Williams Street. While doing so, she struck a parked 2014 Ford. Witnesses then observed the BMW back up at a high rate of speed, hitting a Ford Expedition, which pushed the Expedition into a parked Subaru, causing extensive damage to the Expedition. The BMW then left traveling south on Main Street. The woman then struck a 2015 Nissan from behind, which was driven by a 71-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama. The woman continued driving south, eventually striking a parked UPS delivery truck.

Deputies located and stopped the woman, then transported her to Munson Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. An investigation into the series of accidents is ongoing. A report on the case will be forward to the Leelanau County Prosecutor for review.
