Man Arrested After Driving Drunk To Court

A 58-year-old Elmwood Township man already facing charges was slapped with additional counts after driving to court drunk Thursday.

The man turned himself in at 11:25am Thursday morning to be booked on an assault charge. He appeared in court and then was ordered over to the Leelanau County Jail. During booking, corrections deputies noticed the man appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. The suspect admitted to drinking alcohol that morning and then driving to his court appearance. Following the appearance, he had moved his vehicle again, this time over in front of the Sheriff's Office.

A road deputy was called in and performed an investigation and determined the man was intoxicated. In addition to his assault charge, the man now faces an additional charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
