"Navajo Code Talkers" At The State

There will be a special screening of the documentary "Navajo Code Talkers: In Their Own Words" tomorrow (Sun.), Oct. 26, 6pm, at The State Theatre in downtown Traverse City.

The 60-minute documentary tells the stories of six code talkers who helped win the Pacific "island hopping" campaign of the U.S. Marines during World War II with use of a battlefield communication code that utilized the Navajos unwritten language. It was the only code during the war that was never broken.

The documentary was written by Dr. George Colburn, who will appear with editor Richard Hartwell. Because the documentary has not yet been released to the general public, attendees will be asked to complete a survey about the content and production values of the show. Admission is free; donations welcome.
