Our Three Spring Break Ideas for the Cold Weary

Sick of the cold already? The Ticker is here with a few Spring Break ideas.

We picked the brains of the pros at Passageways Travel in TC to find the newest, hottest, and best deals. Here’s what we found:

Florida’s Fort Myers Beach
Fort Myers is a Michigan favorite and with good reason. But have you heard of The Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa? It’s a gem nestled in a stunning natural environment – at the tip of Fort Myers Beach.

And, the beach is five times wider this year thanks to a Fort Meyers Beach restoration project completed in 2012.

The Pink Shell is a family-friendly destination with an undersea fantasy pool, al-fresco dining and something for the moms too – a full service health and beauty spa. It is situated on 1,500 feet of sugary white sand overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy both Fort Myers and Sanibel beaches.

See more at www.pinkshell.com. Passageways offered a quote for a 6-night stay for a family of four in peak season at around $2,400.

Disney Delight
Looking for an all-out family fest? Tammy Sofonia, Passageways’ resident Disney expert, says there are a few items to note:

- The Fantasyland Expansion, five years in the making, is now open. It includes Under the Sea —Journey of the Little Mermaid, Enchanted Tales With Belle, Ariel's Grotto, Gaston's Tavern and Bonjour! Village Gifts, and the much-awaited Be Our Guest Restaurant.

- Also new in Downtown Disney is the new Splitsville Bowling Alley. There are 30 lanes across the venue’s two floors. Several bars are prominently located throughout Splitsville.

The packages:
Walt Disney World Resort hotels are offering up to 30% off. But the catch? It most likely won’t fall during your child’s spring break week. Dates that apply are Feb. 18 – March 23 and April 2 – June 14, 2013.

Tammy also offers up this sample pricing: Book a 5-night, 6-day Magic Your Way Package, including Theme Park tickets, at Disney's All-Star Sports Resort and save $250, with a total package price of $1,593 for a family of four (for stays most nights Feb. 24 – March 7, 2013 and April 7 – May 23, 2013). That's about $67 per person, per day.

Mexico Mojo
Or, consider a week’s escape at the new Barceló Maya Colonial Resort in Mayan Riviera, Mexico. It is an all-inclusive beachfront resort in two adjacent hotels spread over acres of tropical gardens. This resort features eight restaurants, six bars, three pools and a disco.

But of course what you’re really going for is the sand – the private beach spreads 1.12 miles along protected coral reef, an eye-pleasing exhibition of the Caribbean beauty.

Patricia McGee Martin, travel consultant with Passageways, is booking stays for March 23-30 and double occupancy rates are $1524.64 per person. Rates include accommodations, meals, entertainment and air transportation roundtrip from Lansing.
