Road Commission Seeks Millage Renewal

The Grand Traverse County Road Commission hopes to ask voters this fall for a four-year renewal of a one-mil millage to pay for county road improvements. The Road Commission is seeking approval this month from the county board of commissioners to put the renewal on the November 2016 ballot.

Voters approved a three-year millage in 2013, which raised approximately $4.4 million annually for repairs, including an estimated $3.5 million for the county, $750,000 for the city and smaller allocations for Kingsley and Fife Lake.

According to the Road Commission, "a four-year renewal will allow the public to see a continual series of road improvements through Grand Traverse County until the recently approved statewide funding is received in its full allotment in 2012." A resident with a $100,000 taxable home value could expect to pay to $100 a year if the millage passes.
