Suspect Arrested Following Armed Robbery At Grawn Shell Station

A 25-year-old Manistee man was arrested Friday morning following an armed robbery at the Grawn Shell gas station.

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Shell just before 5am after a suspect wearing dark clothing and a ski mask displayed a handgun to a station attendant and demanded money from the cash register. The attendant was not injured in the exchange, and the subject fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. Deputies collected evidence at the scene and deployed K9 Jax for tracking.

While still working on the case, the Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police were deployed to Walmart just before 7am in response to a report of a man with a gun. Walmart was immediately evacuated, and the suspect was detained. No one was injured at the store. Witnesses indicated the man appeared to be passed out in the store, and when approached by a store employee, he jumped up and ran, in the process grabbing for a handgun he had on him.

After detaining the man, authorities found clothing on the suspect matching the description from the Grawn Shell robbery and a pellet handgun in the man's possession. The 25-year-old was transported under law enforcement supervision for a medical evaluation, then lodged at Grand Traverse County Jail. The case remains under investigation.
