TCAPS Superintendent Finalist Withdraws

One of the three superintendent finalists for Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) has withdrawn his name from consideration for the position. In a statement to the board Tuesday, Ronald J. Webber of Novi Community School District wrote: “Upon further reflection, my family and I believe our personal and professional interests are best found in serving the families of Novi. I greatly appreciate the opportunity TCAPS afforded me in learning more about the needs of your district. I am deeply humbled by the entire process and appreciate your sincere efforts on behalf of the children you serve. I wish you the best as you endeavor to choose a strong leader to work beside.”

Webber's withdrawal narrows the field to two internal TCAPS candidates: Interim Superintendent Paul Soma and Associate Superintendent Sander Scott. Second-round interviews began Wednesday night with Soma and continue tonight (Thursday) with Scott at the TCAPS administration building on Webster Street at 7pm. A public meet-and-greet will take place before the interview from 6-6:45pm, with the interview lasting approximately one hour.

With the updated interview schedule, the TCAPS board is now expected to meet next Monday, March 23, to make a final hiring decision.
