Traverse City Named Emerging Food City By Conde Nast

What do Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Manila, Jersey City and Traverse City have in common? If you think nothing, think again. They are five of 19 cities around the world identified as "up-and-coming" food scenes.

Conde Nast Traveler magazine asked some of the county's finest chefs to share what cities are rising on the culinary charts. Here is what Michael Armstrong, who runs the kitchen at NYC's Bodega Negra, had to say about his pick:

“Traverse City has great natural resources, small farms, great wineries and craft breweries and is the cherry capitol of the U.S. It’s all about the wineries, breweries, and distilleries there.”

Armstrong listed Trattoria Stella, Black Star Farms Winery and The Cooks' House as some of his top picks. “It’s farm to table, local, sustainable cuisine. I’ve also heard it’s a favorite of Mario Batali, who spends his summers in Traverse City,” says Armstrong.
