Two TC Food Trucks Win State Grants

One new food truck is launching in Traverse City and another is expanding thanks to grants awarded this week by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

The one-time grants of up to $10,000 were awarded to eight out of 65 applying trucks in the state and carried a requirement of a minimum 25 percent fund match from each business. Traverse City food truck Roaming Harvest received $10,000 to expand and put up $6,564 in matching funds to qualify for the grant.

Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan will launch Mi Fresh Start, a mobile food service training enterprise and food truck, this fall in Northern Michigan. The venture received $10,000 from the MEDC and put up $59,300 in its own funds to launch the business. The company also received a $11,800 grant from the Grand Traverse County Economic Development Corporation. Mi Fresh start aims to support local agriculture, provide workforce training, and offer affordable fresh food options to low-income and food insecure populations.
