Thursday Deadline For $50K In Rotary Grants

The Good Works Committee of the Rotary Club of Traverse City has $50,000 available in grant funding for local nonprofit groups and projects for the first quarter of 2017 - but applicants must apply by Thursday (Sept. 1).

Grants are available in six major areas: arts and culture, basic human needs, education, environment, health and safety, and recreation. Nonprofits in need of funding for capital expenditures, start-ups and new projects, equipment purchases and one-time special opportunities and events are strongly encouraged to apply. Priority is given to organizations whose operating revenues do not come primarily from tax dollars and to projects that have the broadest possible long-term impact in Rotary's service area.

Funding for the grants comes from the annual Rotary Show. Recent grants have included $2,000 to TART Trails for its Recycle-A-Bicycle program, $4,000 to Reigning Liberty Ranch for improvements to its ourdoor riding arena, $5,000 to Traverse City Little League for its Old Mission Peninsula ball fields, and $4,000 to the Groundwork Center for its Double Up Food Buck Northwest Michigan program.
