835 Coronavirus Tests Administered During Free Testing Weekend

A total of 835 community tests were administered this past weekend as part of a free COVID-19 testing initiative offered at Turtle Creek Stadium by the Michigan National Guard, Michigan State Police, and Grand Traverse County Health Department. Test results are expected within the next week, and information on numbers will be shared as available. The effort was part of a statewide initiative with multiple other sites throughout the state and could be offered in other communities in the future.

With the administering of tests in these quantities, "community members should prepare to see increases in positive cases from symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals," according to a release from Grand Traverse County Covid-19 Joint Operations Center. "Any positive cases resulting from this weekend’s testing will go through case investigation and contact tracing by the local health department of the county of residence of the case. Overall, our community will benefit and slow the transmission of COVID-19 by identifying positive cases and preventing community exposure to individuals unknowingly spreading the virus."
