Airport Releases More Details on Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Cherry Capital Airport Police Chief Joseph FitzGerald released a statement with more details Monday about a fatal pedestrian accident that occurrred at the airport Friday.

At approximately 4:45pm Friday, authorities responded to an accident on Fly Don't Drive in front of the terminal involving a pedestrian and a Metropolis shuttle bus.

"The individual was immediately given medical attention by an off-duty trauma doctor and off-duty paramedic," said FitzGerald. "Local EMS, fire, and other local enforcement departments were also immediately dispatched. Despite quick lifesaving attempts, we are deeply saddened the minor succumbed to injuries at the scene."

Metropolis is "fully cooperating with local law enforcement and the airport," the statement said. The company is contracted by TVC for parking and shuttle services. Metropolis provides the short-term, long-term, economy lot, and shuttle services at Cherry Capital Airport.

 

"On behalf of the Cherry Capital Airport, I want to extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away," said FitzGerald. "No words can ease the pain of such a sudden tragedy, but please know that our entire team stands with you during this unimaginably difficult time."

The statement said that "out of respect for those involved and to support the ongoing investigation, no further details are being released at this time."
