Big Little Hero Race To Benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters

Northwestern Michigan College students are hosting the fifth annual Big Little Hero Race in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan on Saturday, April 13.

Each year, the Big Little Hero Race team chooses a local hero to lead the fun run and be recognized during the award ceremony. After reviewing public nominations, students selected Ty Schmidt of Norte to be this year's local hero. The superhero-themed race will be held on NMC’s main campus near the Health & Science Building. Registration for the event is available online here. The event includes:

1 mile fun run/walk: Free to participate & free cape for kids
5K run/walk: $20 for students, $30 for adults
10K run: $20 for students, $30 for adults

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which begins at 9am with the one-mile fun run, followed by the officially-timed 5K and 10K at 9:30am. There will be family-friendly activities until 12:30pm including food, carnival games, and a silent auction. Awards will be given for best male costume, best female costume, best child costume (male and female), and best team costume. Medals will also be distributed to the top three best times for each age group for both males and females.

In five years, the Big Little Hero race has raised more than $80,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan.
