Blair Township Man Arrested For Child Abuse

A 30-year-old Blair Township man was arrested over the week for allegedly abusing his five-year-old son.

Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a township residence Saturday to investigate an incident involving the child. The boy's uncle reported hearing his brother and the child screaming in another room, then found the boy with marks on his neck and bruising around his eyes. The uncle then called the boy's grandparents, who picked the child up and took him to the hospital for an examination.

Deputies located the boy's father at the Pantry Shelf party store in Grawn and arrested the man. The man resisted officers and received a laceration to his head as he was being taken into custody. Emergency personnel provided medical aid to the offender, and he was transported to the Grand Traverse County Jail.

A report will be sent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office requesting charges of child abuse, resisting and obstructing police, and assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder.
