Central High School To Go Virtual Monday Due To Coronavirus Case

Traverse City Central High School will move to virtual instruction Monday due to a positive school-associated case of COVID-19.

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) was informed by the Grand Traverse County Health Department about the case Sunday. In order to allow adequate time for the Health Department to complete contact tracing, Central High School was moved to remote learning for Monday. No school is scheduled on Tuesday (Election Day), and learning is expected to resume face-to face at Central High School on Wednesday.

The Central High School campus will be closed to students and staff on Monday. Classes will follow the remote school schedule. UpNorth Virtual Live and Face-to-Face students will log into their Google Meets Classroom using their teacher codes for each hour in order to receive instructions for their daily classes. The TBAISD Career-Tech Center was already scheduled to be closed on Monday for professional development for TBAISD staff. All students and staff are asked to stay home during the remote learning days, including CHS students who attend NMC dual enrollment classes. All school sponsored activities and events are cancelled. All other TCAPS buildings will continue face-to-face instruction.

The Health Department continues to investigate the situation and will directly notify any close contacts who may need to take additional health measures. If a student or staff member is not contacted by the Health Department, it means that either the staff member or student was not identified as a close contact of the person who tested positive. As an additional precaution, CHS will be deep cleaned and disinfected again and any buses or other potentially affected areas will receive an additional cleaning and disinfection prior to student and staff use. Breakfast and lunch for Central High School students will be available for pickup at Eastern Elementary School from 7am to 8am Monday through the side entrance labeled “Extended Day Parking.”
