Changes Approved For TVC Terminal

The first of what’s expected to be several contract adjustments for the $120 million “Gates to the Future” terminal expansion at Cherry Capital Airport was approved by the airport board this week.
The Northwest Regional Airport Authority Board approved a $166,180 change order to its construction contract with The Chistman Company. It covered a handful of changes to the construction contract for the terminal expansion (pictured above) that began in April.
The adjustment covered several items including site preparation and materials for the groundbreaking ($42,496), temporary relocation of a maintenance office ($31,913), upgrades to a debris fence around the construction site ($18,463). Other changes included relocating roof antennas and color changes to the new terminal roof to match the existing terminal.
Airport CEO Kevin Klein says contract changes are typical for such large-scale projects, and he expects other contract adjustments going forward. The terminal budget includes a $10 million contingency fund to absorb additional expenses incurred during construction.
TVC Engineer Bob Nelesen also presented a construction update to the board. Work in progress includes foundation walls and steel framing for the new terminal building, roughing in utility lines and masonry work. Some $14 million has been spent on the terminal portion of the project so far – about 17 percent of the total. Another $5.8 million has been expended on the apron construction, almost 29 percent of those expenses. Nelesen says the project remains on schedule for anticipated completion in May 2028.
The public can follow progress of the terminal construction through a streaming camera at the construction site available on the airport’s website at tvcairport.com at the TVC: Gates to the Future tab.
